Passport photo requirements by country – visa, foreign passports and ID cards

Every country sets its own requirements for visa, passport and ID card photos. The size differs, and so does the background colour, how much of the frame your face should fill, and whether you are allowed to smile. A photo accepted in one country may be rejected in another.

With Multi-ID in our photo booths you select the country and document type, and the booth sets the correct format for you. Twenty countries have their own presets. For the rest you use the standard sizes 35x45 mm or 50x50 mm, which meet the requirements in over 100 countries.

Taken together, we cover the photo requirements of virtually every country in the world – and we are currently the only provider in the Nordics offering this directly in a photo booth.

For visas, presets are available for the United States, Canada, Australia, India and Thailand among others, as well as the eTA for Vietnam. If you are applying to a country without its own preset, use the standard 50x50 mm size.

For foreign passports, formats are available for Finland, France, Poland, Spain, India, Syria, Iran, Ukraine and Pakistan among others.

Please note that we photograph for foreign passports, visas and ID cards. Applications for a national passport in your country of residence are handled by the authorities there.

The requirements are set by the country you are applying to, not by us. Always check the current requirements with that country’s embassy before your photo is taken, as they change from time to time.

The booth lets you retake the photo several times, so you can check the result carefully before choosing the image you want.
